It’s almost time for the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival, also known as the Indio Date Festival.
Indio California is well known for its’ date production and each year they celebrate by playing host to the Date Festival, which is also a county fair. Dates are a delicious desert fruit and are used in everything from date shakes to date cookies. Restaurants drive from all over California to by the dates, and date paste to use in their dishes and drinks.
The festival and fair began in 1921 and became more famous every year with increasing food and entertainment. Today, some of the best known events are the camel and ostrich races, the blessing of the dates and the award-winning Arabian Nights Musical Pageant. As usual, there will also be nightly headline entertainment including live music featuring well known artists in concert.
For those looking for more fun and games there are the usual fair rides and eateries to enjoy. Those looking for even more excitement will get a major kick out of the WGAS Monster Trucks and of course there is a rodeo. Then there is the classic midway where everyone can try their luck and test their strength with one of the many challenging games of skill and strength.
For those who aren’t familiar, Indio is located in the desert 125 east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley area just west of Palm Springs. The Coachella Valley is already famous for hosting the Coachella music festival each year and this is just another fun event in the area.
